How to Change Your Name After the Wedding (And Why We Help With It)

Once the confetti has settled and you’re back from your honeymoon, the next question usually pops up: “Do I have to legally change my name—and how do I even start?”

The answer: only if you want to, but if you choose to—your wedding planner can actually make the process easier.

Here’s what the process looks like, and how we guide you through each step:

Order Certified Copies of Your Marriage License:

You'll need at least 2–3 certified copies. We help you figure out how and when to request them through your local probate court.

Start with Social Security:

Your new name starts here. Submit an SS-5 form, along with your current ID and marriage certificate.

DMV Next:

Once your Social Security name change is processed, update your driver’s license or ID. Most states require your new Social Security card as proof.

Passport, Bank, Employer, etc.:

This is where it gets time-consuming—insurance, HR paperwork, utilities, credit cards, and yes… even your Starbucks app.

Let Us Help: At 212º Event Planning, we provide you with a complete name change checklist, organized by timeline and priority, so nothing gets missed.

Changing your name shouldn’t be a guessing game—and with us, it’s not.
